Carl S. Boswell joined the funeral pression in Oxfordshire in 2004. Initially working for Oxford's only Independent Funeral Directors before they were sold to Dignity PLC in 2012. In this time Carl was taught all aspects of the profession and in 2015 founded C.S. Boswell Independent Funeral Services. 

Joined by his brother Ryan Boswell as the company evolved, the duo assisted by their enthusiastic and like minded team have built a well respected company and now have funeral homes in Oxford, Kidlington and Bicester.

The funeral profession has seen many changes over the years and Direct Cremations have now become a popular choice for many families. In 2025 Oxfordshire Direct Cremations started trading to make a dignified difference to the Direct Cremation profession.

In 2025, direct cremation funeral plans accounted for over 60% of all pre-paid funeral plans sold in the UK. This represents a significant dominance in the pre-paid market compared to the "at-need" market (funerals arranged immediately after a death), where direct cremations accounted for approximately 20% to 21% of all funerals performed in 2025.
